Wow! What a night! I attended the D&AD New Blood Awards 2018 ceremony at The Oval Space in Bethnal Green, London. I was invited by the D&AD because my entry for the Burger King brief had been shortlisted for a pencil. I decided to make a day of it and spend some time within East London’s revolutionary arts and media quarter, with its vibrant streets, trendy bars and hub of top creative businesses. My first port of call was the 2018 New Blood Festival at The Old Truman Brewery to view the exhibited work on display from the very best university design courses around the UK.

I also managed to book myself on to a couple of talks hosted at the D&AD offices, with creatives from the likes of Mr President and Wolff Olins providing some valuable designer advice.

New Blood Awards Ceremony

By the evening I had moved on to the awards ceremony venue to meet some of the other winners and witness some truly amazing ideas and talent. In the end my submission was awarded a Wood Pencil, something the D&AD (2018) describes as not just a trophy, but… “Every entry is narrowed down into a shortlist of the best work submitted for each brief. If you make it to the Wood Pencil winners, then you’ve fought off some seriously tough competition to walk away with this bad boy. You’ll be miles ahead of the game already.”
